This unit is a permanent research structure affiliated with the Institute of Social Sciences at the University of Minho. It was created in
September 2002
to provide an institutional framework for integrating the growing body of research and the increasing number of
researchers in the Department of
Communication Sciences. CECS aims to promote and strengthen the status of Communication Sciences
within the framework of Social Sciences; to develop
research on Communication Sciences within the Portuguese Speaking Countries; and to reinforce relations with similar organisations in Portugal and abroad.
