New CECS publication: “Diseases in the Portuguese press: portrait of the decade”

Diseases in the Portuguese press: portrait of the decade is the title of the most recent ebook published by CECS. Edited by Felisbela Lopes and Rita Araújo, this publication focuses on the journalistic treatment given to the diseases that deserved more attention from the informational agenda of Portuguese daily newspapers.

According to the publishers, “this book aims to help pave the way, bringing together the efforts of 2nd cycle students who, over the course of a semester, analyzed previously collected data”.

The Sources and Institutions Curricular Unit, of the Master of Science in Communication at the University of Minho, which paved the way for this publication, seeks to understand and interpret the interaction that the various social fields develop with the news media, with particular attention to relations between sources of information and journalists. “In the semester program, particular emphasis is given to the health field and there we try to understand the news coverage that the Portuguese media promote”, refer Felisbela Lopes and Rita Araújo in the introductory note to the ebook.
