Olga Bailey | Class, Race and Social Distinction in Social Networks: The Mexican Diaspora Online

Olga Bailey presented a seminar at the Doctoral Programs of Communication Sciences and Cultural Studies, on 23 March.

The researcher introduced a study on the uses of digital social networks by the Mexican European diaspora. To illustrate the use of racial and class distinctions, the author specifically considered the use of Facebook as well as the “A Small World (ASW)”. Through the analysis of images and texts, in addition to questionnaires and interviews, she verified the existence of tactical or explicit exclusion, as well as discrimination and segregation in social networks.
