The conference topic is of high relevance in health care and health prevention, as well as health promotion, and aims at gathering contributions from researchers across different fields of expertise, provided they are invested in understanding and improving health communication processes.

Hernâni Oliveira is a researcher and guest professor at the University of Évora, Portugal.
He has two degrees in Biology and Communication Sciences, from the University of Porto. At this institution, he also completed two master’s degrees, one in Oncology and the other in Public Health, defending his doctoral thesis within the scope of the Austin | Portugal in Digital Media applied to Health Communication, in partnership with the University of Texas, USA.
At the beginning of 2018, Hernâni Oliveira was selected to be one of the young scientists by the EIT Health Starship program, obtaining the 1st Prize in the competition at Sorbonne University, Paris.
Hernâni is also the founder of BRIGHT DIGITAL, a start-up focused on developing health communication technology that promotes citizen empowerment and therapeutic adherence among vulnerable populations.
His projects in the area of breast cancer and pediatric oncology were awarded the Diogo Vasconcelos Prize for Social Entrepreneurship, the RedEmprendia prize from Banco Santander and the Grand Prize C3 Prize. Hernâni received the vote of praise from the municipality of Esposende, as well as the Active Citizenship Award in the Entrepreneurship area of the University of Porto, for his efforts in working on digital solutions that use participatory principles to drive change in public institutions.
Duarte Vital Brito is a Public Health Physician currently based at the Western Lisbon Health Unit (ULS Lisboa Ocidental), where he coordinates the team responsible for developing the Local Health Plan for Cascais and contributes to various health planning and health communication projects. He’s a member of the Technical Support Team for the National Health Plan at the Portuguese Directorate-General of Health, where he leads the communications working group. He holds a Master’s degree in Public Health and Development (Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine – NOVA University of Lisbon), with a thesis on strategic communication in public health units. He also completed postgraduate studies in Data Visualization (ISCTE-IUL and Faculty of Fine Arts – University of Lisbon) and Public Health Communication (Faculty of Human Sciences – Universidade Católica Portuguesa).

Débora Miranda is a health communications consultant dedicated to bridging science and society through communications strategy, training, and storytelling. Throughout her career, Débora has worked on diverse topics such as public health, health policy, antimicrobial resistance, cancer, dementia and malaria. She is a former staff member of the World Health Organization, where she led dissemination activities for the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies. She has also collaborated with the European Public Health Association (EUPHA), Portugal’s Directorate-General for Health (DGS) and academic institutions such as the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and the University of New South Wales in Australia. Graduated in Communication Sciences from Universidade NOVA and with a master’s degree in Science Journalism from City University London, Débora worked as a journalist for Germany’s DW radio and the British newspaper The Guardian.

He was Vice-President (2019-2021) and President (2022-2024) of the National Association of Public Health Doctors. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he headed the Regional Special Committee to Fight the Pandemic in Azores (2020-201). He was an invited professor of Medicine at Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar, ICBAS (2014-2020).
