In recent years, there has been growing social, political, and academic interest in issues related to the juvenile justice and criminal justice systems. This trend is evident, for example, in the growing number of university courses dedicated to these topics in Portugal. This work stems from the coordinators’ research and teaching experiences, drawing on their diverse areas of specialization and individual and collaborative careers. It combines the expertise of a vast array of national authors, who share their reflections on the topics under analysis, at the intersection of multiple disciplinary fields. The Juvenile Justice and Criminal Justice Handbook, with a pedagogical objective, seeks to assist teachers and students of the social and behavioral sciences, with a particular focus on sociology, criminology, law, psychology, and social work. It is a practical and comprehensive tool that offers debates, perspectives, and training activities in an integrated and systematic manner, promoting reflection and critical thinking.
