The book ‘Social Psychology, Communication and Culture’, edited by Rosa Cabecinhas, Carla Cerqueira and Julia Alves Brasil, has just been published:
“In today’s world, where so-called “globalised” media tend to favour images that promote cultural shock and polarisation, and the suffering of others is turned into media spectacle, it is necessary to reaffirm the social commitment of communication sciences. This commitment involves contributing to the construction of more just, sustainable and democratic societies, in which respect for diversity, in all its forms and possibilities, is one of the basic conditions for human coexistence (e.g., Moragas, 2023; Sodré, 2023). We hope that this book will provide readers with tools to act in processes of social change, in whatever contexts they find themselves, based on the concepts and theoretical-practical articulations discussed here. This book is the result of our experience as teachers and researchers in the fields of social psychology, communication and cultural studies. The lessons learned from our professional careers and life experiences in different cultural contexts, as well as debates inside and outside the classroom with students and colleagues from various disciplines, were essential to the completion of this work.”
