Lecture and workshop by Silvana Mota-Ribeiro at the Federal University of Santa Catarina

During a stay in Brazil, Silvana Mota-Ribeiro will give a lecture and a workshop at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC).

The lecture, entitled “Social Semiotics and Multimodality: Unveiling and Translating Meanings and Speeches”, will take place on June 18 at the Henrique Fontes Auditorium and “aims to embrace the universe of social semiotics and multimodality as forms of Critical Discourse Analysis, as the objective of effectively showing how crucial they are to unveil and identify meanings and discourses in various texts, namely visual and multimodal.

The next day, June 19, the CECS researcher will present the workshop “How to analyze images? Perspectives and techniques of analysis in action – towards a visual translation”. This workshop will “give a brief overview of different ways of analyzing images, provide concrete tools for analysis and put them into practice with participants, showing their crucial utility among different languages and cultures, in a kind of visual translation”.
