Albertino Gonçalves recognized by Melgaço City Council

Albertino Gonçalves, researcher at the Communication and Society Research Centre and professor at the Sociology Department of the University of Minho, was awarded the Melgaço Municipality with the Citizen of Honor Medal.

The ceremony took place at the Noble Hall of Melgaço City, on October 26, at 10:00 am, where were honored citizens and institutions of Melgaço that were noted for their personal merits and civic deeds and for all their work for the community.

PhD in Sociology, Albertino Gonçalves teaches and researches Sociology of Culture and Art. Among his work are the publications Economic and Social Impacts. Guimarães 2012 – European Capital of Culture (with Rui Vieira de Castro, Francisco Carballo-Cruz, João Cerejeira and Luís Amaral, 2013); The Golden Age of the postcard illustrated in Viana do Castelo (2011) and Vertigens. Towards a sociology of perversity (2009).

Among other research and community outreach activities, he coordinated the assessment of the cultural impact of Guimarães 2012 – European Capital of Culture, the creation of the Memory and Border Space in Melgaço, the Dar Life to Letters Project in the Vale do Minho Intermunicipal Community, the Minho-Galicia Encounters, the various editions of the Spring School, among others. He is the promoter of the blog Imaginary Trends and is part of the equipped project Festivity, cultural heritage and community sustainability.
