On March 25, at 5 p.m., the Sala dos Atos at the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Minho will host the presentation of the book História do cinema: dos primórdios ao cinema contemporâneo (The history of cinema: from its origins to contemporary cinema). Nelson Araújo, coordinator of the publication, and Paulo Cunha, one of the authors, will join the event.
This book, with two editions, is part of the bibliography of numerous cinema and audiovisual courses in Portugal.
Nelson Araújo is the director of the Cinema and Audiovisual degree in the Escola Superior Artística do Porto. He teaches the History of Portuguese Cinema, the History of Cinema, Audiovisual Expression, Cinema Aesthetics and Directing Methodologies. He is a researcher at the Centro de Estudos Arnaldo Araújo, is a member of the organising committee of the International Meeting Cinema e as outras Artes, and has participated in the coordination of the 4 volumes of Cinema e outras Artes – Diálogos e Inquietudes Artísticas published by LabCom.IFP.
Paulo Cunha is a lecturer at Universidade da Beira Interior. He is the director of the Masters in Cinema and vice-president of the Arts Department. He is a PhD in Contemporary Studies from the University of Coimbra, a researcher at LabCom – Comunicação e Artes and a collaborating researcher at the INCT Rede Proprietas. He was editorial coordinator of Aniki: Revista Portuguesa da Imagem em Movimento (2018-2020), coordinator of the Thematic Seminar Post-Colonial and Peripheral Cinemas at the Brazilian Society for Cinema and Audiovisual Studies (2016-2019) and Vice-President of the Federação Portuguesa de Cineclubes (2018-2021). He is currently part of the Jornadas Cinema em Português, and a programmer for the Curtas Vila do Conde International Film Festival and the Cineclube de Guimarães.
