Presentation of the book “The World in Europe”

On June 4th, at 7 p.m., at Centésima Página bookshop (in Braga), the book O Mundo na Europa (The World in Europe), by Sheila Khan, Vítor de Sousa and Rita Ribeiro, will be presented.

The presentation session will count with the presence of the three editors, with the commentary of Francisco Mendes, from the University of Minho, and with the moderation of António Jorge, from Antena 1.

Accepting the uninterrupted shuttle between Europe and the World, this book establishes a diversified relationship, a dynamic that sometimes glides on the wave of financial decisions and economic behaviours, and sometimes leaves us confronted with the words and the ground trodden and imagined by Europeans and their counterparts in their intra- and intercontinental drifts. Carefully attentive to the possibilities of a larger language, in the cadence of the problems dealt with in each of the texts – like disciplinarily independent entries in a dictionary under construction, such as languages and scales, crises and waves, economies (and) policies, unions and continents, wars and peace, states and patriotisms, leaps and expectations, landscapes and the future – the question about the strangeness of the presences between the World and Europe is rehearsed, diving into the temporal wandering that is expected from an investigation without fixed and exclusively predetermined teleologies, vigilant of its implacable logics, competing with them, discovering them in the very process of identifying and problematising subjects, systems and agency, correlations that provoke so many other questionings.
