The Communication and Society Research Centre will reactivate, in the first semester of 2022, the Permanent Seminar “Science With and for Society”, promoting regular meetings to foster debate on topics addressing the interaction of science and technology with society.
This cycle of seminars, scheduled for the first Thursday of each month, will seek to promote interdisciplinary meetings of researchers focused on production, use and legitimisation of science and technology, namely addressing communication and representation of science.
The next seminars will address the role of science journalism in combating misinformation strategies, the relationship of art with science and how theatre can also be a stage for messages on scientific knowledge.
The first meeting will be held on Thursday, February 3, where Carlos Elías, professor at the Universidad Carlos III (Madrid) and Jean Monnet Chair, will discuss “Science and Journalism as vaccines against Fake News”. Now a researcher on scientific disinformation, he worked as a chemical scientist (synthesising six new molecules explaining quantum phenomena) before working as a political journalist for the Spanish EFE news agency.
The event will be held on Zoom.
