Last Monday, June 24, the Foundation for Science and Technology released the results of the Evaluation of R&D Units.
The Communication and Society Research Centre (CECS) of the University of Minho was evaluated as Excellent, having obtained the maximum score in all evaluation parameters: 1) quality, merit, relevance and internationalization of R&D activities of integrated researchers; 2) merit of the team of integrated researchers and 3) appropriateness of objectives, strategy, plan of activities and organization.
The evaluation panel of the Communication Sciences, whose visit took place last May 2, had the following constitution: Nathalie Fenton (Chair), Goldsmith University of London (United Kingdom); Barbie Zelizer, Annenberg School of Communication, University of Pennsylvania (United States of America); Greg Elmer of Ryerson University, Toronto (Canada); Paula Chakravartty, of New York University (United States of America); Sarah Banet-Weiser, London School of Economics and Political Science (United Kingdom).
According to the report of the evaluators, “the visit confirmed the excellence of CECS’ research profile” in the area of Communication Sciences.
With a base funding of 1 million and 201 thousand euros and a programmatic funding of 894 thousand euros for the next years (2020/2023), CECS also has the attribution of 12 PhD Fellowships.
The CECS was evaluated with Excellent for the third consecutive time: 2008, 2014 and 2019, reinforcing its position among the research units in Portugal.
