Between 26 and 27 November, the International Congress “Culture and Tourism” will take place at the Polytechnic University of Maputo. The CECS, involved in the organization of this Congress, is present through the participation of more than two dozen researchers.
Cultural Tourism has grown significantly in the world today and comprises two essential aspects: Contemporary Culture, understood as ways of life and the development of the culture of the individual and the group, in the dissemination of heritage and tradition. Culture is not only about the activities of an elite, selected and educated to formulate aesthetic judgments about the system of values, traditions and ways of life of a specific community. Culture is also the life and interests of ordinary people. Culture is not only the past and the tradition, but also the creative expressions, but also the ways of life of the people, their habits and customs. Tourism, for its part, is an integral part of the lifestyles of our time, with geographic mobility and cultural enjoyment playing a central role. At the same time, in many countries and regions, it is an essential economic sector, because growth often depends on it.
Focused on the theme of Culture and Tourism, the CECS researchers present works in the panels: “Cultural, Identity and Heritage”, “Tourism, Development and Peacebuilding”, “Intercultural Communication and Development”, “Memories, Cultures and Identities: comparative studies in Mozambique and Portugal”, “Representation of Tourist Destinations, Mercantilization of Culture and Identities”, “Imaginaries, Representations and Media”, “Mobility and Contemporary Life”, “Construction of Identities of Individuals and Spaces”, “Landscape, Sustainability and Heritage”, “Gastronomy, Crafts and Cultural Tourism”, “Promotion and Exploration in the Public Sector” and “Culture and Tourism Policies in the CPLP Space and in the Ibero-American Space”.
At the congress there will also be a space dedicated to the pre-launch of the journal Comunicação e Sociedade: Lusophone Studies and Communication Sciences edited by Moisés de Lemos Martins, Alda Costa, and Isabel Macedo.
