CECS to Host the 2nd International Colloquium “Rethinking Latin America” in February 2026

The Communication and Society Research Centre (CECS) of the University of Minho will host, on February 25, 26 and 27, 2026, the 2nd International Colloquium Rethinking Latin America, dedicated to the theme “Decoloniality, Interculturality and New Subjectivities”. The event aims to create a space for dialogue and critical reflection on the contemporary challenges facing the Global South, bringing together researchers, students, and activists.

This edition results from a partnership between the Concliare – Confidently Changing Colonial Heritage project, CECS at the University of Minho, and the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL), with the collaboration of the Association of Philosophy and Liberation (AFYL), the Centre for Iberian and Ibero-American Studies (CEIIBA), the Laboratory for Discourse Studies (LED), among other partner institutions that are part of international networks dedicated to critical Latin American thought.

The colloquium will take place in a hybrid format, with in-person sessions in Braga and online presentations, facilitating international participation. Communications may be submitted in Portuguese, French or Spanish, reinforcing the event’s commitment to linguistic plurality and the decolonisation of knowledge.

With its central focus on subjectivities that emerge in territorial, linguistic, epistemic, or affective margins and borderlands, the event invites the construction of new ways of knowing, coexisting and pursuing justice.
