Call for Papers for the I Meeting of the Sopcom Intercultural Communication Working Group

It is open until July 20 the call for papers for the I Meeting of the Working Group on Intercultural Communication of SOPCOM, to be held on October 4, 2018, at Mosteiro de São Martinho de Tibães, Braga.

The promotion of diversity in the media and in cultural institutions is a current concern, and policies have been implemented at the international and national levels to promote respect for populations cultural diversity.

The I Meeting of the Intercultural Communication Working Group of SOPCOM aims to bring together researchers, teachers, media and arts professionals who, from different perspectives, study ways of communicating cultural diversity through media, cultural products and the arts.

The WG accepts communication proposals that explore how the media and cultural institutions represent, interpret, and deconstruct views around intercultural relations. Studies that analyze the role of the media in reflection and deepening knowledge about the “Other” are welcome.

In addition to other topics in the broader area of intercultural communication, the Working Group accepts communication proposals on the following topics:

  • Cultural diversity policies
  • Memories, diversity and social inclusion
  • Migrations, diversity and education
  • Cultural industries and diversity
  • Intergenerational communication
  • Intersections, communication and gender studies
  • Identity, otherness, media and cultural heritage

Submission deadline: July 9, 2018
Notification of acceptance: July 31, 2018
