Criminology has experienced exponential growth in Spain and Portugal in recent decades, consolidating its position through the creation of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and research groups with an increasingly international profile. However, this parallel development has not yet translated into deep and sustained collaboration at the regional level, unlike in other places, such as the Balkans or, above all, the Nordic countries. Inspired by these experiences and taking advantage of geographical and cultural proximity, the 1st Iberian Congress (and 15th Spanish Congress) of Criminology provides the ideal setting for building bridges and establishing dialogues that facilitate cooperation between Portugal and Spain in the field of research. At the same time, this Iberian Congress aims to strengthen and expand academic collaboration networks with criminology in Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking Latin American countries.
