Call for papers for the 9th International Congress for the Study of Mediation and Conflict

The call for papers for the 9th International Congress for the Study of Mediation and Conflict is open until June 1. The event, which will be held between October 16 and 18, 2024, will be titled “Mediation and the Building of Coexistence and Peace”.

The 9th International Congress for the Study of Mediation and Conflict is taking place at a time of great challenges facing societies, organisations, and individuals. Peace is an essential good to protect and is threatened not only by wars but also by structural and symbolic violence, which denounce situations of discrimination, exclusion, conflict, precariousness and the weakening of people. Therefore, the development of democracy, the affirmation of citizenship and the promotion of coexistence continue to require action methodologies that promote the values that underpin them.

Mediation has made a name for itself in various social contexts, fostering constructive dialogue, win-win collaborations, positive conflict resolution and empowerment, whether in the context of traditional justice reform, conflict management in organisations, the peaceful resolution and transformation of inter-intranational conflicts, or in promoting coexistence in schools and universities, protecting the best interests of children, valuing positive intra-family communication, and the recognition and inclusion of minorities and migrants. These themes have been the subject of debate within scientific and practical communities committed to the study of conflicts and mediation.

“Reimagining our futures together”, sustainable and peaceful, shared and interdependent, is a UNESCO commitment to which this 9th edition of the Conference of Universities for the Study of Mediation and Conflict (CUEMYC) congress is associated. In line with CUEMYC’s commitment to the study of conflicts, mediation and new methodologies in peace-building, this congress will focus on four priority lines of reflection and sharing:

– Mediation, democracy, and coexistence.

– Research and practices for conflict management and resolution.

– Initiatives for the development of mediation and peace.

– Mediators and other actors in the consolidation of peace.
