Call for papers for the Congress Journalism, Citizenship and Sustainable Democracies in Portuguese Speaking Countries

The call for papers for the Congress Journalism, Citizenship and Sustainable Democracies in Portuguese-Speaking Countries is open until January 31.

The Congress is promoted jointly by ACEP – Association for Cooperation Among Peoples, CEIS20 – Center for Interdisciplinary Studies of the 20th Century (UCoimbra) and the Communication and Society Research Centre, with the support of Camões I.P.. It is an initiative aimed at promoting and sharing knowledge, information, studies and experiences, focused on the ideas of media citizenship and political citizenship.

The event will take place on March 2, 3 and 4, 2022 (new date), at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra. It is an opportunity for communication professionals, journalists, researchers, NGDOs and institutions working in media and public opinion in the Portuguese-speaking area to meet and debate the impacts of information, journalism and media on the development and promotion of a democratic and civic culture in Portuguese-speaking countries. Moreover, an exchange of experiences may serve as a guide for creating participatory initiatives in different social contexts.

As such, the congress organisation invites researchers, non-governmental organisations and communication professionals to present their communication proposals, whether they be studies, communications or projects that may address one of the following thematic axes:

  • Proximity communication and local and regional development
  • Sustainable journalism in sustainable democracies
  • Quality journalism in quality democracies
  • Journalism and intercultural and intercommunity dialogue
  • Media citizenship, literacy and political citizenship

Following the conference, a publication is expected to be released around the contributions, conclusions, projects and results in these thematic axes, irrespective of the participation of the proponents in the event.
