Between 27 and 31 October, the city of Maputo, Mozambique, will host the third edition of the Audiovisual Heritage Meetings, this year dedicated to the theme ‘Cinema and the independence of the PALOP countries’.
This meeting commemorates International Audiovisual Heritage Day (27/10) and promotes discussions that connect audiovisual heritage, historical memory and education. The programme includes thematic panels, exhibitions, workshops, debates, guided tours, book launches and film screenings.
The event is organised and produced by the Association of Friends of the Cinema Museum in Mozambique (AAMCM), with support from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in partnership with CECS-UMinho, as part of the CONCILIARE – Confidently Changing Colonial Heritage (Horizon Europe) project, among other entities.
The sessions will take place in person, with some being streamed online. Highlights include:
– 30/10, 6.30pm: Presentation of the book edited by Ana Cristina Pereira and Rosa Cabecinhas ‘Abrir os Gomos do Tempo: Conversas sobre Cinema em Moçambique’ (2022), published by Editora UMinho-CECS. Session to be held at the Portuguese Cultural Centre in Maputo.
– 31/10, 2 p.m.: Panel ‘Cinema, history, teaching and research’, with the participation of Rosa Cabecinhas, at the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Centre. Participate online via the link: https://www.youtube.com/@museudocinemaMZ/streams
