Conference: With the Son in Her Arms: The Sculptures of Humility and Piety

On 28 November, at 6pm, the auditorium of the D. Diogo de Sousa Archaeology Museum will host the conference ‘With the child in her arms: The sculptures of Humility and Piety’. It will be presented by Albertino Gonçalves, a lecturer and sociologist with extensive experience in the sociology of culture and art. The speaker will continue his critical analysis of artistic and religious iconography, following on from previous presentations – ‘The sword, the cross and the chalice in Christian imagery’ in April 2025, “Clothing the naked. Censorship and destruction of art‘ in February 2023, and ’Ancestors of surrealism: mannerism” in May 2023.
The session will be preceded by a musical performance by the Archdiocesan School of Liturgical Music – São Frutuoso.
An Alvarinho wine will be served at the end.
