‘Nem 1 Sem Professor’ was launched on 5 October and is a digital observatory dedicated to gathering and disseminating initiatives that promote the appreciation of education and teachers in Portugal.
Developed as part of researcher Aline Veroneze’s doctoral thesis, the project is funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and has the support of the Institute of Social Sciences and the Communication and Society Research Centre (CECS) at the University of Minho and CICANT – Centre for Research in Applied Communication, Culture and New Technologies at Lusófona University. The action was structured on the basis of the #Nem1PraTrás movement, led by the Roberto Marinho Foundation of the Globo Group in Brazil, which mobilised partners against school dropouts. Aline Veroneze was in charge of the actions for four years until she decided to replicate the initiative in the Portuguese context.
The platform includes exclusive interviews, a repository of educational resources and digital mobilisation actions planned for 2025. It was created in response to the need to organise information on projects that support teachers and improve the social representation of the profession. ‘Portuguese society values education, but many initiatives are still little known by teachers and schools themselves. Nem1SemProfessor‘ wants to shorten these distances and promote more efficient communication between educators, institutions and society in general,’ says Aline Veroneze, the project’s author.
