On 18 December, at 11am, PolObs and Communitas are organising a meeting on the theme: ‘Public Funding of Journalism’, through the Zoom Platform.
The event proposes a discussion on support mechanisms for possible public funding measures for private media. The topic has been on the public agenda for some time and, with a government proposal currently on the table, its topicality is growing, as is the need to discuss the possible virtues and risks of public support programmes for private media.
The debate will feature Miguel Poiares Maduro, Director of the Global Law School at the Catholic University of Lisbon, Professor at Cátedra Vieira de Almeida and the European University Institute, Luís Nazaré, Executive Director of the Private Media Platform, Augusto Correia, Vice-President of the Journalists’ Union, and Joaquim Fidalgo, Researcher at the University of Minho. The moderator will be Professor Elsa Costa e Silva, PolObs Coordinator.
We would like to remind you of the report that resulted from the study ‘Public funding of the media: what do Portuguese journalists think?’, carried out by the Observatory of Science, Communication and Culture Policies (PolObs/CECS) and coordinated by researcher Elsa Costa e Silva.
