Helena Sousa at ERC Regulatory Board

The Portuguese Parliament elected on Friday, June 30, the new members of the Regulatory Board of ERC, the Portuguese Media Regulatory Authority. With 141 votes in favour out of a total of 196, the team jointly proposed by the PS and PSD also includes Helena Sousa, Full Professor of the Department of Communication Sciences of the University of Minho and integrated member of the CECS.

With an academic career particularly linked to the area of Political Economy of the Media, Helena Sousa was the researcher responsible for the project “The Regulation of the Media in Portugal: the case of ERC”, funded by the FCT, between 2010 and 2013. She has been the coordinator of PolObs, the Observatory of Science, Communication and Culture Policies, a member of the Independent General Council of RTP and was deputy director of the CECS between 2012 and 2015. She has collaborated for several years with the European Audiovisual Observatory, is editor of the European Journal of Communication and is currently responsible for the Portuguese team of EuromediApp, a European project funded by the Erasmus + programme, dedicated to platform regulation policies. At the University of Minho, Helena Sousa also sums up a path of expressive commitment. She was President of the Institute of Social Sciences, President of the Cultural Council, member of the Ethics Council, director of the Department of Communication Sciences and director of the PhD course in Communication Sciences. Currently, she is President of the Institute’s Council and a member of the Ethics Council.
