On November 22, took place the 1st Seminar of the Independent Life Support Center (CAVI) of the Independent Life Association (AVI).
In response to an old aspiration, the Independent Life Support Model – present in Decree Law 129/2017 – is changing the lives of people with disabilities. Almost 1000 people with disabilities are already getting support from personal assistants around the country to meet their basic needs.
The new legislation is therefore changing the social paradigm as regards the intervention of people with disabilities, facilitating everyday tasks and offering them more autonomy, as Carlos Veiga, CECS researcher and one of the seminar organizers, said. .
According to Inês Mendes, CAVI’s technical coordinator at AVI, seminars like this “are very important to reflect on the model and intervention in the area of Independent life, but also on sharing the personal and organizational experiences of the technicians and people involved in this project.” pilot”.
