2nd Luso-Brazilian Summer School: Culture, Heritage and Territory

The second edition of the Luso-Brazilian Summer School will take place between 1 and 17 July 2026 at the University of Minho (Braga) and at cultural venues in the city, notably the Biscainhos Museum and the Roman Theatre of Braga. The initiative is organised by the Department of History, Lab2PT/IN2PAST, CECS and CIEC at the University of Minho, in partnership with the ATRIVM/RECMA Laboratory at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS), under Cooperation Agreement No. 20/2025-UFMS, and also benefits from the collaboration of Braga City Council and the Biscainhos Museum.

Centred on the theme ‘Culture, Heritage and Territory’, the Summer School provides a forum for advanced training, international cooperation and interdisciplinary reflection on contemporary issues within these scientific and cultural fields. Aimed at undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students in the fields of Archaeology, History, Cultural Heritage, Education and Social Sciences, the initiative encourages the participation of researchers, lecturers and students from Portugal and Brazil, fostering the sharing of knowledge, methodologies and research practices.

The three-week programme comprises specialised workshops, thematic sessions and field activities, structured around an interdisciplinary approach to the relationships between culture, heritage and territory. Key thematic areas covered include heritage education, cultural policies, community participation, the dissemination of scientific knowledge, and the application of digital technologies to the documentation, interpretation and enhancement of cultural heritage.
The practical component includes activities carried out at the Roman Theatre in Braga, ensuring direct contact with archaeological contexts and applied research methodologies, and strengthening the links between the university, cultural institutions and the community.
