Abílio Almeida is a Portuguese social scientist, holding a PhD in Communication Sciences from the University of Minho, with a thesis awarded the highest distinction. A researcher at CECS since 2016, he focuses on analysing how media and emotions shape society. He serves as an Associate Editor of the scientific journal Humanities and Social Sciences Communications (Springer-Nature, Q1). He is the author of A Cultural History of Laughter (Guerra & Paz, 2022; Routledge, 2024), where he highlights the important role of media in the democratisation of laughter, and The Future of Television (Routledge, 2024), which, among other aspects, proposes a new model of Public Service adapted to emerging digital platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. The latter is part of the prestigious Routledge Advances in Sociology series.
