Assistant Professor in the Department of Humanities, Arts and Communication at the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD), Fábio Ribeiro teaches Journalism and Science Communication. He is the Director of the Undergraduate Degree in Communication Sciences at UTAD and Vice-Director of the Master’s Degree in Communication Sciences at UTAD. He is the Director of Information and Entertainment at UTAD TV, an online television that serves as an audiovisual laboratory for students. He is a member of the board of REC – Reporters under Construction, a project involving universities and polytechnics from all over the country, which translates into the broadcasting of a monthly programme of stories on Antena 1 and Antena 3.
He completed his European PhD in Communication Sciences, in the field of Sociology of Communication, in 2013, at the University of Minho, after a period of research in the Publiradio research group, at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, in Spain.
From the research point of view, he focuses on topics such as interactivity between citizens and the media, proximity media and science communication.
He is a member of several international scientific associations, such as IAMCR and ECREA. In Portugal, he is part of Sopcom – Portuguese Association for Communication Sciences -, where he is the Coordinator of the GT Radio and Sound.
He was a trainee journalist at TSF-Rádio Notícias, in Lisbon, a communication consultant in the business sector and Science and Technology Manager.
