Ph.D. in Communication Sciences in 2012, from Universidade do Minho, with funding from FCT, Inês Amaral is Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy, Communication and Information of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra.

She has developed research work on sociabilities in digital social networks, digital literacy, technologies and active aging, media consumption in the digital age.

Inês Amaral is a member of IAMCR, ECREA, INSNA, COST and SOPCOM. Currently integrates Media In Action – MIA (LC-00644630; http://mediainaction.eu) and DecoDeM – (Des) Coding Masculinities: for a better understanding of the role of media in the construction of perceptions of masculinities in Portugal (PTDC/COM-CSS/31740/2017). She is a member of three of COST: IS1402 – Ageism from a Multi-National, Interdisciplinary Perspective, CA15122 Reducing Old-Age Social Exclusion: Collaborations in Research and Policy (as MC Substitute) and IS1401ELN Strengthening Europeans’ capabilities by establishing the European literacy network. She is a co-founder of the Portuguese Association of Distance Education and Training.
