José Carlos Venâncio got his PhD at the University of Mainz (Germany), in 1984, and is currently Full Professor in the University of Beira Interior (Portugal), where he teaches Sociology. He also teaches in the Agostinho Neto University (Angola), in the Faculty of Social Sciences.
His research stands in the areas of Sociology of Culture, Cultural Studies and African Studies. He is a member of the scientific board of the Revista Angolana de Sociologia and vice-president of the general assembly of the Angolan Society of Sociology.
From 1996 to 2007 he was Visiting Professor at the University of Macau (Asia).
