José Manuel Rocha has a Bachelor’s degree in Geography and Planning and a Master’s degree in Geography with a specialization in Territory Planning and Management from the University of Minho. He is currently a doctoral student in Geography with a specialization in Physical Geography and Environmental Studies at the University of Minho and in Geography, Territorial Planning and Environmental Management with a specialization in Natural Systems and Global Changes at the University of Barcelona.

His research field includes physical geography and, natural risks and vulnerabilities, particularly concerning forest fires, soil (erosion and mitigation), land-use changes, geographic information systems and remote sensing, for territory and risk management.
