Larissa Morais graduated in Journalism from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and worked in the profession for around ten years before starting her academic career. She was a reporter, editor-in-chief, and press officer for various media companies in Brazil.

She completed a master’s degree at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) and a doctorate at the Fluminense Federal University (UFF), both in Social Communication. Since 2009, she has been a lecturer in the Journalism programme at UFF. She is the deputy coordinator of the Media, Networks, and Youth research group and coordinator of the Controversas extension project.

She is conducting postdoctoral research at the University of Minho (UMinho), where she is studying the influence of financial capital on economic news in Portuguese and Brazilian media.
