Luísa Martins Fernandes has a PhD in sociology, teaches special education, is a collaborating researcher at the Communication and Society Research Centre and a trainer accredited by the Scientific and Pedagogical Council for Continuing Education and by the National Institute for Rehabilitation [INR]. Her research focuses on professional inclusion, independent living, self-determination, participation in the community and quality of life for people with disabilities.
She has publications in book chapters and scientific articles with relevance to the area of disability. He won the 2019 edition of the António Dornelas Award with his doctoral thesis Organizational Action and Quality of Life: A Comparative Study of Northern Portugal and Galicia in the Field of Mental Disability.
The thesis was awarded by the Vicente de Risco Foundation for publication in Spain, Galicia. She received an honourable mention, in the 2018 edition of the António Dornelas Award, for co-authorship in the publication “Professional Inclusion and Quality of Life”.
