Madalena Oliveira is a PhD in Communication Sciences, since 2007, from the University of Minho, where she also graduated in Media Studies in 2001. She teaches Semiotics, Communication and Languages, Journalism and Journalism and Sound regularly.

She is an integrated member of the Communication and Society Research Centre, of which she was vice-director from 2012 to 2015. She is deputy coordinator of the Observatory on Science, Communication and Culture Policies (POLObs) and editorial coordinator of this research unit’s electronic (non-periodic) publications.

Over the past few years, she has been developing scientific research on sound culture and radio studies. She is the head researcher of the project “Audire – Audio Repository: sonic-based memories”, funded by FCT (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-032159), and was also the coordinator of the project “NET Station: shaping radio for web environment” (concluded in April 2015), also funded by FCT (PTDC/CCI-COM/122384/2010).

Madalena Oliveira is the Vice-President of Sopcom. She founded the Radio and Sound Media Working Group of this association, which she coordinated until 2017. She was vice-chair of the Radio section of ECREA from 2012 to 2014 and chair from 2014 to 2018.
