Maria Leonor Bicudo is a PhD candidate in Communication Sciences at the ICS of the University of Minho, developing a thesis on news from the Azores on generalist television in Portugal (FCT Research Grant). She has a master’s degree in Journalism from the School of Social Communication of the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon and a degree in Journalism and Communication with a Minor in Tourism, Territory and Heritage from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra. In terms of professional experience, she was a correspondent for SIC in the Azores and a journalist at Diário da Lagoa. She did internships at SIC’s Lisbon newsroom, at Açores TSF and at the newspaper Açoriano Oriental. During her master’s degree, she was a presenter and interviewer on RTP2’s E2 programme and during her degree she worked for Rádio Universidade de Coimbra and Televisão da Associação Académica de Coimbra.

She has presented papers at national conferences such as the XII SOPCOM and the V and VI Meeting of the SOPCOM Young Researchers WG. As far as further training is concerned, she has completed the courses “Elections and the Media: Elections in the Azores”, organised by CENJOR, and the “13th Security and Defence Course for Journalists”, organised by the National Defence Institute.
