Mariana Augusto is a PhD student in Communication Sciences at the University of Minho. She is currently developing research, funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia – FCT, on the relationship between Public Media Service and Media Literacy, focusing on the Portuguese public television, RTP.
Mariana completed her Master’s in Communication Sciences – Communication, Television and Film in 2018 at the Catholic University of Portugal. Also focusing on the Public Media Service. Her thesis, “Os conteúdos formativos nas grelhas de programação da RTP 2 (2003 a 2017)” (The formative contents in the programming grids of RTP 2 (2003 to 2017)), was approved with distinction (Summa cum Laude).
Mariana has a degree in Journalism from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. In her final dissertation, she produced the book Memórias do jornalismo impresso potiguar (Memories of Potiguar Print Journalism). It profiles journalists who worked in the newsrooms of printed newspapers in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Norte between 1960 and 2010.
