Roberto Oto is a journalist with a Master’s degree in Communication Sciences and a PhD candidate in Cultural Studies. In Brazil, he has worked in environmental communication projects – with an emphasis on audiovisual production about the Atlantic Forest -, and was a professor in higher education for eight years, two of which he served as coordinator of a Journalism course.

In 2021, he concluded his first documentary as a director: “O Som por Trás da Neblina”, which deals with the cultural particularities of his hometown: Petrópolis, a mountain region in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Through his ongoing research, as part of his doctorate in Cultural Studies at the University of Minho, he seeks to understand aspects of contemporary culture that can be revealed through studies on Cinema.
