Before joining the ICS, of the University of Minho in 2021, Simon had, in the previous year, finished a master’s degree in the School of Economics and Management of the University of Minho. He is a minister of religion presently in Braga with the management of two IPSS where he is president. Prior to this, he was chaplain to the African Catholic Communities in the Patriarchate of Lisbon; from 2012 – 2015 where he came in contact with many Africans of various origins.

His academic interest in migrations is largely informed by the overbearing influence that accompanying African migrants in their search for an alternative means livelihood and the exercise of their right of free circulation had on Simon. Being a chaplain put Simon face-to-face with the ordeals people encounter as they arrive and strive to integrate into the Portuguese worldview and helped him to ensure flexibility in response to an increasingly demanding migration-charged environment.
