Sónia Silva is a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Portuguese Catholic University – Braga Campus, teaching Strategic Communication and Research Methodologies. Between November 2020 and July 2024, she was also an Invited Assistant Professor at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, teaching in the areas of Communication Theories, Communication Sociology, Research Methodologies, Advertising and Public Relations and Protocol and Event Organisation.
She holds a PhD in Communication Studies: Technology, Culture and Society from the University of Minho (2020), in partnership with ISCTE-IUL, the University of Beira Interior and the Lusófona University of Humanities and Technologies.
Her doctoral thesis, entitled ‘Communicating to be socially responsible: the role of communication in fulfilling the social mission of Portuguese public universities’ received an honourable mention and came 3rd in the Paquete de Oliveira Award for Doctoral Theses in Portuguese Universities 2021 Edition.
Between January 2020 and August 2021, she was a research fellow on the Factory of the Future project (ID&T Industrial Operations Management sub-project; research line – Team Management In Industrialisation Projects), which resulted from the University – Industry consortium established between the University of Minho and Bosch Car Multimédia Braga.
Her research focuses on the areas of Organisational and Strategic Communication, Risk Communication, Crisis Communication, Leadership Communication, Team Management, Organisational Identity, Social Responsibility and Advertising and Public Relations.
