CECS researchers participate in IAMCR 2018

Several CECS researchers participated in the IAMCR 2018 Congress in Oregon, United States of America, from June 20 to 24.

With communications from different areas, CECS was represented by Ana Melo, Anabela Carvalho, Fábio Ribeiro, Helena Sousa, Luís António Santos and Sara Balonas in themes such as environment, sustainability, science communication, risk communication, participation, digital politics, media industries, social media journalism, public media service, among other subjects.

It is worth mentioning the intervention of the researcher Helena Sousa in the posthumous tribute to Denis McQuail, with the presentation titled “Denis McQuail: Defining the field of media and communications research” and the invitation to skype by Anabela Carvalho at the special session “Reimagining Environmental Sustainability for the Academic Conference” and the roundtable discussion “The Past and Future of Environment, Science & Risk Communication”.

The IAMCR 2018 conference was entitled “Reimagining Sustainability: Communication and Media Research in Changing World” and supported the United Nations Sustainable Development agenda, which defines sustainability as harmonizing three core elements, environmental protection, social inclusion, and economic growth, so as to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It calls for concerted efforts towards building an equitable and resilient future for people and planet.
