José Manuel Rocha: New PhD in Geography

José Manuel Rocha’s PhD exams in Geography were held on 26 September at 2.30 pm in the Sala de Atos.

The thesis, supervised by António Vieira and José Bento Gonçalves, is entitled ‘Soil dynamics in burnt areas: changes in physical-chemical properties and land use in the short and long term in north-west Portugal’.

The jury, chaired by Paula Remoaldo, was made up of:

– José Lúcio Sobral da Cunha, Full Professor, Department of Geography and Tourism, Faculty of Letters, University of Coimbra;

– António Avelino Batista Vieira, Associate Professor, Department of Geography, Institute of Social Sciences, University of Minho;

– Helena Maria Neto Paixão Vasquez Fernandez, Adjunct Professor, Instituto Superior de Engenharia, Universidade do Algarve;

– Joaquim Farguell Pérez, Associate Professor, Department of Geography, Faculty of Geography and History, University of Barcelona;

– Marcos Francos Quijorna, Permanent Labour Professor, Department of Geography, Faculty of Geography and History, University of Salamanca.
