Minister Manuel Heitor at the 20th anniversary of CECS

This Friday, 30 April, the Communication and Society Research Centre celebrated its twentieth anniversary with the initiative “Meeting with Researchers: dialogues on science policy”. The event was attended by the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor.

With the purpose of establishing a dialogue between the Minister and CECS researchers, Moisés de Lemos Martins, Teresa Ruão, Ece Canli and Tiago Vieira da Silva questioned Manuel Heitor about the precariousness of scientific jobs, the future of the figure of the teacher-researcher in Higher Education, the employment perspectives for current PhD students, among other aspects. This session also questioned the scientific policies for Portugal in the next few years, the functioning of the Foundation for Science and Technology and the recent results of the competition for
Associate Laboratory.

Manuel Heitor heard the concerns of CECS researchers and encouraged the creation of an informal organism to represent the various research centres in the country.

The “Meeting with Researchers: dialogues on science policy” was broadcasted live on YouTube and on the CECS Facebook page.

Scientific Research Initiation Award and “Summer with Science” programme

During the day, Manuel Heitor participated in several activities organised by the University of Minho, two of them with the involvement of elements from CECS.

In the morning, the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education attended the presentation of candidate projects to the UMinho Scientific Research Initiation Prize 2020, as well as the presentation of posters with the results of the work developed by the grant holders of the programme “Summer with Science”. “Africas: mobility, violence, memory and creativity”, coordinated by João Sarmento, and “Summer School in Communication and Culture for Development”, coordinated by Lurdes Macedo, were the two projects developed by CECS researchers.
