Directed by Martin Dale, a promotional video of the Festival of Bugiada and Mouriscada (Sobrado - Valongo) has just been released. This promotional video is a production of the "Bugiada e Mouriscada" project, developed by the Communication and Society Research Centre (CECS), University of Minho, in partnership with Casa do Bugio (Organizing Association of the Bugiada and Mouriscada Festival), The Union of Parishes of Campo and Sobrado and the Town Hall of Valongo.

The initiative will take place at the University of Minho, from 7th to 8th September, 2017.

José Manuel Pérez Tornero, Full Professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, will be at the Opening Session of the 4th Congress of Literacy, Media and Citizenship, to be held in Porto, on May 5 and 6. The event, which will pay a tribute to the recently deceased Paquete de Oliveira, will be held at the Fundação Eng. António de Almeida, in Oporto, and will have the focus on the motto "For a new awareness of the public space". The initiative is part of the GILM - Informal Group on Literacy for the Media, to which the CECS is associated, since 2010.

The VII AIM Annual Meeting will take place from at the University of Minho, in Braga, from May 10th to 13th. This event will be co-organized by AIM - Associação de Investigadores da Imagem em Movimento - and CECS.

The II International Congress 'As Cidades na História: Sociedade', which CECS is part of the organization, will be held in Guimarães from October 18th to 20th of 2017. The congress is divided into five major thematic areas: The city in the ancient world, medieval, modern, and industrial times - the present state of cities in the era.

A session of the Permanent Seminar on Communication and Diversity of CECS, with Lurdes Macedo, was held on February 21 (2:30 pm) in the ICS-UMinho Sala de Atos, following the title "The Moçambique Island: where diversity builds Identity", within the framework of her postdoctoral studies.

The Seminar "They say it's online Journalism... The evolution of the visions about online journalism and about new (or old) ethical challenges" was held on the afternoon of February 8, in the ICS Sala de Atos (UMinho-Gualtar). It was attended by professors Florence Le Cam (Université Libre de Bruxelles) and Fábio Pereira (University of Brasília), both editors of the journal 'Sur le Journalisme', as well as by Joaquim Fidalgo, a researcher at CECS (Media and Journalism Group).

Pilar Sanchéz Garcia was carrying out a research mission in the CECS, from 20th to 24th February 2017, with CECS researcher Sandra Marinho. Pilar is a Lecturer in the University of Valladolid, in Spain, and her main research focus include teaching practices in Journalism courses.

Revista Lusófona de Estudos Culturalis, vol. 4, nº 1 | "Flows and Paths in Visual Culture": Call for papers extended until March 15
The call for papers for volume 4, nº 1 of Revista Lusófona de Estudos Culturais was extended until March 15, following the title "Flows and paths in visual culture". The issue will be co-edited by Moisés de Lemos Martins and Zara PInto-Coelho (both of CECS).
Call for papers for RLEC – Cultural Studies, Citizenship and Democracy until May 30
It is open until May 30 the call for papers for volume 4, nº 2 of Revista Lusófona de Estudos Culturais, on the subject "Cultural Studies, Citizenship and Democracy". The editors of this issue are: Moisés de Lemos Martins (CECS, University of Minho), Urbano Sidoncha (Labcom.IFP, Beira Interior University) and Messias Bandeira (IHAC, Federal University of Bahia).

The application process to get the admission for the PhD programmes, held in the Social Sciences Institute (ICS), at the University of Minho, is now open due on 14th April 2017. CECS participates in many of those courses. Please access here to learn more about the PhD programmes.

The first session of the Doctoral Seminars 2016-2017, organized by CECS and the Communication Sciences Department of UMinho, was held on February 24. The session was presented by Isabel Macedo and Mariana Lameiras, both researchers at CECS.
CECS organizes complementary training actions – FCT PhD in “Communication Studies: Technology, Culture and Society”
CECS has been undertaking training courses addressed to PhD students of the four editions of the FCT PhD programme in "Communication Studies: Technology, Culture and Society". On February 23, the first session was held in the ICS-UMinho's Sala de Atos, entitled "New media and digital sources for research on communication within current transcultural network societies", with the trainer Pedro Andrade.
