Summer with Science: two schools, 25 scholarship
"Africas: mobility, violence, memory and creativity" and "Summer School in Communication and Culture for Development" are the names of the two CECS projects included in the "Summer with Science" program. In operation between July and October, the initiative aims to stimulate the development of "Summer Schools", with integrated initiatives of R&D and higher education in person. In this context, 20 research grants and 5 research initiation grants were awarded to the CECS.
Ana Duarte Melo elected chair of a IAMCR section
The CECS researcher Ana Duarte Melo was recently elected chair of the "Participatory Communication Research" section of the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR).

A special volume of the Comunicação e Sociedade journal has just been launched, dedicated to the theme "Advanced public relations studies". This volume of the CECS journal was in charge of Teresa Ruão and Ana Belén Fernández-Souto.
CECS researcher receives new award for thesis on Mental Disability
PhD in Sociology from the University of Minho, Luísa Alexandra Martins Fernandes was one of the winning researchers at the XXIV Prize for Social Sciences, from the Vicente Risco Foundation, as a reflection of the quality of her doctoral research produced at the Communication and Society Research Centre (CECS).
Larissa Schögl: new PhD in Communication Sciences
The PhD exams in Communication Sciences by Larissa Schögl took place on July 3rd, at 3 pm. The thesis, supervised by Nelson Zagalo and Daniel Brandão, has the title “The cinematic narrative poetics and the representation of the family in Walt Disney Pictures films, from animation to live action”.
Marta Martins: new PhD in Sociology
On July 22nd, at 2:30 pm, took place the doctoral exams in Sociology by Marta Martins. The thesis, supervised by Miguel Bandeira and Flávio Nunes, has the title “Socio-spatial segregation in an urban context. A comparative study between Braga-Portugal and Aracaju-Brazil ”.
Anselmo Belém Machado: new PhD in Human Geography
On July 21st, at 2:30 pm, took place the doctoral exams in Human Geography by Anselmo Belém Machado. The thesis, supervised by Miguel Bandeira and Flávio Nunes, has the title “Socio-spatial segregation in an urban context.
