On 6 November, the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) released the results of the IC&DT Project Call in all scientific domains. To this call, the Communication and Society Research Centre (CECS) submitted 18 applications in the areas of Communication, Sociology, Geography and History, all of which were considered eligible and obtained a good evaluation. However, of these applications, only four were approved for funding, all in the area of Communication.

POLOBS develops study on “Publics of Culture in Braga”
The Observatory of Science, Communication and Culture Policies (POLObs / CECS) of the University of Minho is coordinating the study “Publics of Culture of Braga”, carried out in the context of the Braga Cultura 2030 strategy and of Braga's candidacy for the European Capital of Culture 2027.
CECS project approved by FCT

On 6 November, the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) released the results of the IC&DT Project Call in all scientific domains. To this call, the Communication and Society Research Centre (CECS) submitted 18 applications in the areas of Communication, Sociology, Geography and History, all of which were considered eligible and obtained a good evaluation. In the “Media and Communication” panel, only four projects were approved, one of them from CECS. Of the winning applications, two of them are also coordinated by members of the CECS team.
Three ERASMUS+ projects with the participation of CECS researchers
Recently, three researchers from the Communication and Society Research Centre (CECS) received a positive evaluation in their applications to the ERASMUS + program. The result resulted in three projects approved with the participation of CECS.
Seminar on “The colonial past as a problem not closed in contemporary times”
The next Permanent Seminar in Post-Colonial Studies will take place on December 11, at 2:30 pm, via Zoom. "The colonial past as a problem not closed in contemporary times. Mental decolonization as an intercultural possibility in times of resentment" is the theme of the session with the participation of Luís Lisboa, leader of the FUA-Frente Unitária Antifascista, and Pedro Schacht Pereira, professor at Ohio State University (USA).

On October 29, a cycle of webinars dedicated to the debate on Modern History began. Organized by Isabel dos Guimarães Sá, a researcher at CECS, this cycle of webinars already has a program until January 2021.
Vista: permanent call for papers from the new CECS journal
Created in 2015 by the Visual Culture Working Group of the Portuguese Association of Communication Sciences (Sopcom), Vista is now being edited by the Communication and Society Research Centre. With a permanent call for papers, Vista accepts proposals for original and unpublished academic papers on topics related to the objectives and scope of the journal, in the form of articles, visual projects, reviews and interviews.
Comunicação e Sociedade: call for papers on “Health communication during a pandemic”
This volume of Comunicação e Sociedade focuses on the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and aims at gathering researchers from different geographies in thinking about Health Journalism and Health Communication within a global health crisis. Nowadays, the diversity of media platforms, the change in habits of media consumption, or the increase of fake news and disinformation bring renewed challenges to the fields of Health Journalism and Health Communication. Therefore, it is important to understand what is being done, both nationally and internationally, to deal with these challenges and to reinforce the role of journalism and communication applied to health.

The PhD exams in History (speciality Historical Demography), by Gracineide Pereira dos Santos Oliveira, took place on November 6, starting at 2:30 pm. The thesis, supervised by Carlota Santos, is entitled “Demographic profile of the parishes of Seridó / Rio Grando do Norte – Brazil (1840-1900)”.

The PhD exams in Cultural Studies by Fernando Augusto Silva Lopes took place on October 27, at 10 am.
