The session will be attended by Ana Lúcia Araújo, from Howard University and will be broadcast via Zoom.

Entitled "Activism in Angola: resistance manual", the session will be moderated by Joana Fonseca, from the University of Coimbra, with the participation of Adolfo Maria, Angolan nationalist, and Angolan activists, Laurinda Gouveia and Hitler Samussuku.

The Communication and Society Research Centre (CECS) is now available to collaborate in the presentation and development of the applications of its researchers.
Scientific Employment StimulusThe call for Scientific Employment Stimulus (3rd Edition), from the Foundation for Science and Technology, is open until February 26th. Candidates wishing to have the Communication and Society Research Centre as a host institution must submit their proposal through an online form, until February 12th.
Concurso “Parque Natural de Montesinho”: investigador do CECS na equipa de projeto aprovadoThe Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) released the result of the evaluation of the call for scientific research and technological development projects (IC&DT) for the promotion of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary R&D activities to be carried out in the Montesinho Natural Park region. Of the 60 applications submitted to the competition, 6 were recommended for funding. One of the funded projects has the collaboration of CECS researcher, João Sarmento.
Vista: permanent call for papers from the new CECS journalWith a permanent call for papers, Vista accepts proposals for original and unpublished academic papers on topics related to the objectives and scope of the journal, in the form of articles, visual projects, reviews and interviews. Articles can be submitted in English or Portuguese.
[NEW DEADLINE] Comunicação e Sociedade: call for papers on “Health communication during a pandemic”This volume of Comunicação e Sociedade focuses on the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and aims at gathering researchers from different geographies in thinking about Health Journalism and Health Communication within a global health crisis. Nowadays, the diversity of media platforms, the change in habits of media consumption, or the increase of fake news and disinformation bring renewed challenges to the fields of Health Journalism and Health Communication. Therefore, it is important to understand what is being done, both nationally and internationally, to deal with these challenges and to reinforce the role of journalism and communication applied to health.
Awarded theses by CECS researchersOn December 23, 2020, the University of Aveiro awarded the International Prize in Cultural Studies Virgínia Quaresma in the Career and Best Doctoral Thesis in Cultural Studies modalities. The Career Award was sponsored by the Regional Culture Directorate of the Center, in Portugal.
Alene Lins: new PhD in Communication SciencesThe PhD exams in Communication Sciences of Alene da Silva Lins, took place on January 12, starting at 2:00 pm. The thesis, supervised by Luís António Santos, is entitled “A socio-semiotic view of the spontaneous in political photojournalism”.
Helena Pereira: new PhD in Communication SciencesThe PhD exams in Communication Sciences of Helena Alice Mendes Pereira, took place on January 6, starting at 2:30 pm. The thesis, supervised by Jean-Martin Rabot, is entitled “Curation (expanded) as a process of Contemporary Art Communication”.
