Last April 30th, the Communication and Society Research Centre (CECS) celebrated its twentieth anniversary.
The twentieth anniversary of the CECS was celebrated with the initiative “Meeting with Researchers: dialogues on science policy“. The event was attended by the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor, and the rector of UMinho, Rui Vieira de Castro.
World Day of Portuguese Language celebrated with the launch of a new collection at the Virtual Museum of LusophonyThis collection, divided in three parts, results from the project developed by Paulo Munhoz (Federal University of Santa Maria (RS) and researcher of the Online Journalism Research Group (Gjol) of the Federal University of Bahia). The project is a visual clipping of the Santo António Além do Carmo neighbourhood, in the city of Salvador (Bahia), from three dimensions: daily life, memory and faith.
Seminar “The culture of cancellation in social networks and hate speech”The next MilObs seminar, organised in partnership with Communitas, brings together social networks and hate speech in the same debate. The meeting will take place on May 5, at 4pm, via Zoom, and will be broadcast on MilObs and CECS Facebook. Pedro Mexia, Dora Santos Silva, Sofia Magalhães and José Miguel Duque are the speakers of the session, which will be moderated by Manuel Pinto and presented by Sara Pereira and Margarida Alves.

World Press Freedom Day: Communitas and PolObs debateTo mark the World Press Freedom Day, the Observatory for Science, Communication and Culture Policies (PolObs) in collaboration with the think tank Communitas promoted the debate "Information as a public good" that sought to discuss the exercise of Journalism in Brazil and Portugal.

Rosa María Carneiro, from the University of Brasilia, will deliver the session "Generations of Brazilian women and maternity projects: temporalities in focus from the COVID-19 pandemic".
Project linked to Cultures Past & Present is finalist of the UMinho Scientific Research Initiation Prize – 2020The project "Images and narratives of interculturality: young people, cinema and history", developed by the student Lara Campinho, from the 1st year of the Degree in Sociology, of the Institute of Social Sciences, was one of the six finalists of the 1st UMinho Award for Initiation in Scientific Research - 2020.
