The mini-documentary "Emmanuel Nassar: 81-18, a videovisit", directed by Lurdes Macedo, CECS researcher, addresses the life and work of Emmanuel Nassar (Belém do Pará, 1949), one of the most renowned Brazilian plastic artists.
Call for papers for the VII International Congress on Cultures
Call for papers extended until 10 October. November 2021 will bring the seventh meeting hosted online, as in the previous edition, on account of the travel restrictions and public health protocols due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Project Cultures supports the 8th International Anti-Racist Film Festival
The 8th edition of the International Showcase of Anti-Racist Cinema (MICAR) will take place between 8 and 10 October, at the Rivoli Theatre, in Porto. The "Cultures, Past & Present" project, developed at the CECS, has joined institutional partnerships to support the organisation of the event.
Researchers from CECS receive an award for Scientific Excellence
The journal Comunicar has awarded a Scientific Excellence award to CECS researchers Sara Pereira, Joana Fillol and Pedro Moura. The paper awarded, published in 2019, is entitled "Young people learning from digital media outside of school: the informal meets the formal".

The Permanent Seminar for Research and Community (SPIC) dedicated to the Audire project was held on 8 September. "Under the sign of sound: memory, expression and culture" was the theme of this SPIC, which counted with the participation of Madalena Oliveira and Cláudia Martinho, both CECS’ researchers.

RLEC | Call for Papers | Intercultural mediation, citizenship and social development
This issue invites contributions on the various facets of intercultural mediation and the role of mediators in times of change such as these. It invites authors to consider the plural and multifaceted objectives of intercultural mediation in contexts of social transformation. The focus of the issue will be on trialled practices of intercultural mediation, the construction of multicultural citizenship, and the positive development of society, which are transformative and healing in a humanist logic of caring for the other and in terms of the possibility of reinterpreting society in contexts of crisis.
Call for Chapters: Urban Tourism, Viral Society and the Impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic
To cope with such a dramatic situation, this book, among other purposes, aims to study the emergent social risk ‘Covid-19’, in particular in what concerns urban tourism, and its economic, political and cultural causes and impacts. This may contribute to a sustainable and healthier urban life, namely to help different social actors to cope with risks within travelling localities: local citizens, tourists, marginalities (pensioners, disabled people and migrants), etc.

Open Science in discussion in the inaugural session of the master’s degree programme in Science Communication
The inaugural session of the master's degree in Science Communication will take place on October 6, at 6 pm, in the Amphitheatre of the School of Engineering of the University of Minho (Gualtar). Dedicated to the theme "Open Science: emergency response or new normality?", the session, which kicks off the academic year 2021-2022, will have the participation of Eloy Rodrigues, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Open Access Repositories Confederation.

Tomoko Yaginuma’s PhD dissertation in Cultural Studies took place on September 24 at 10 am.
