The Seminar of Science and Society returns this academic year with the theme “Humans of the Anthropocene: comics and the representation of humankind in a geologically transformed planet”. The session will take place on October 6 (online), at 5 pm, with the participation of Hugo Almeida, from Universidade NOVA de Lisboa.
Review the Visual Culture seminar “Not the truth perhaps of the facts, but their enchantment”
The first Visual Culture seminar of the 2022/2023 academic year took place on September 22 at 6.30 pm. “Not the truth perhaps of the facts, but their enchantment” was the theme discussed by Andréa C. Scansani, from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (Brazil).
4th Seminar on Food and Sustainability
On October 17, at 4 pm, the 4th Seminar on Food and Sustainability will be held via Zoom. This year, the scientific event has the participation of Carolina Sapienza-Bianchi, Filipa Almeida, Pedro Neves, Tiago Ferreira, and Cynthia Luderer.

On October 3 and 4, the International Conference “Governance of Digital Media and Platforms, Regulation and the Public Interest”, of the EuromediApp project, took place at the Sala de Atos of the Institute of Social Sciences. The event had more than 60 participants, coming from several parts of the world.

The book “Festividades, Culturas e Comunidades: Património e Sustentabilidade”, by Rita Ribeiro, Emília Araújo, Márcia Silva and Alberto Fernandes has just been published. The book is available in open access.

Patrícia Posch: new PhD in Cultural Studies
Realizaram-se no dia 16 de setembro, pelas 14h30, na Sala de Atos do ICS, as provas de doutoramento em Estudos Culturais de Patrícia Tany Posch. A tese, orientada por Rosa Cabecinhas, tem o título As narrativas da migração entre o relato biográfico e o discurso mediático: o caso da imigração brasileira recente em Portugal.
Rita Neves: new PhD in Sociology
Realizaram-se no dia 26 de setembro, pelas 9h15, na via Zoom, as provas de doutoramento em Sociologia de Rita Neves. A tese, orientada por Alice Matos, tem o título “(Des)emprego e depressão em fim de carreira profissional: as experiências no mercado de trabalho daqueles com 50 anos e mais desde a perspetiva crítica da economia política”.©Universidade do Minho.
