The double meaning of balanceJuly is, like December, a month that we typically dedicate to reviewing our activities. We look back at the semester or the year with a view to analysing the time that has passed, assessing the work done and measuring the results achieved. This is also what we did at CECS at an assembly meeting of integrated members and collaborators on 21 July.
As an exercise in weighing up what has been done and what is to be done, taking stock is a typical economic action. But it can have at least one other meaning, which, in fact, also suits us on the verge of holidays: that of making the oscillatory movement that allows us to increase the energy with which we launch ourselves forward!
From September, CECS has challenges that will require a lot of commitment from everyone. Applications for funding for projects in all scientific fields, the evaluation process of the unit on the basis of which funding for the period 2025 to 2029 will be decided, and the XIII Sopcom Congress are the three major dossiers that will occupy us until the end of January. So let August be a time for everyone to “take stock”.

New research project: “Engaging Places and Communities for Inclusive Peri-Urban Transitions”
CECS is the Portuguese research partner of a new research consortium, Engaging Places and Communities for Inclusive Peri-Urban Transitions. This project was funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology, under the Driving Urban Transitions Partnership programme.
CONCILIARE: new project at CECS
"CONCILIARE - Confidently Changing Colonial Heritage" is the latest project of CECS, which obtained the maximum score in the call "HORIZON-CL2-2023-HERITAGE-01 (Research and innovation on cultural heritage and CCIs)".
Call for papers: “COMMONING: Common Resources, Associationism and Networks of Reciprocity throughout History”
We encourage the submission of case studies on commons, cooperatives, mutuals, associations, and informal cooperation and reciprocity schemes. Additionally, we welcome comparative and entangled analyses that shed light on the multifaceted history of common practices. Proposals in English, Portuguese, Spanish, and French are accepted. Selected papers from the congress will be considered for publication in an open-access, peer-reviewed electronic book.

The X Doctoral Conference, organised by the Communication and Society Research Centre (CECS) of the University of Minho, will be held on November 9 and 10, at the Gualtar campus, Braga. The thesis, supervised by Rita Ribeiro and Mário Lima de Matos, is entitled Viagem, Bagagem e Imagem. Uma jornada pelas rotas de mouros e cristãos em festa (Travel, Luggage and Image.
