1st session of ‘Luminous Minds’
The first session of the Luminous Minds project will be held on October 4 at 6 pm via Zoom. With a masterclass on Creative Writing, the event will be attended by Ayslan Monteiro (SOKO/Droga5 Brasil Agency) and Joana Geada (Uzina Agency), both copywriters and world award winners.
CECS researcher elected vice-chair at Ecrea 2024
Rita Araújo, a CECS researcher, was elected vice-chair of the Health Communication section of the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA). The election will be held on September 26, during the association's congress held at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia.

On 25 and 26 September 2025, the Communication and Society Research Centre will organise Ecrea's European Conference on Health Communication. The event will have the theme ‘Literacies and Empowerment in Health Communication’ and was announced at the association's congress at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia.
Call for papers for the International Conference of the MigraMediaActs project
Until November 30, 2024, the MigraMediaActs project is accepting submissions for the conference ‘Migration and communication in the planetary era: debates and actions’, which it is organising between April 29 and 30, 2025, at the University of Minho in Braga. The proposals will be peer-reviewed and the evaluation results will be sent by January 20, 2025.

Opening conference of the doctoral programmes – ‘Portugal 50/25: The angel of joy has passed through us’
The opening conference of the doctoral programmes in Communication Sciences and Cultural Studies will take place on 4 October at 2:30 pm in the Auditório de Engenharia. ‘Portugal 50/25: The angel of joy passed through us’ is the theme of the conference that marks the start of the 2024/2025 academic year and will be addressed by Anabela Mota Ribeiro, journalist, writer and cultural programme maker.
José Manuel Rocha: New PhD in Geography
José Manuel Rocha's PhD exams in Geography were held on 26 September at 2.30 pm in the Sala de Atos. The thesis, supervised by António Vieira and José Bento Gonçalves, is entitled ‘Soil dynamics in burnt areas: changes in physical-chemical properties and land use in the short and long term in north-west Portugal’.
PhD viva of Inês Gonçalves Mendes
The PhD viva of Inês Gonçalves Mendes in Communication Sciences will be held on 28 October at 2.30pm in the Sala de Atos of the Institute of Social Sciences. The thesis, supervised by Sandra Marinho, is entitled Slow journalism: expressions, evolution and relevance in a society without time. The case of Fumaça and Tortoise.
